Another Episode 1: Musings
Another is interesting for a number of reasons, mostly because it’s made by PA Works, of Angel Beats and Hanasaku Iroha fame. Being a thriller, it tends to bend more towards the former in terms of style, but you can see very subtle details where HanaIro has influenced the art and direction. The interesting thing is that, as first episodes go, it’s actually pretty standard fare: Plucky...

So, I had a dream about my bass last night. I think my brain is trying to tell me something.
Those things don’t even make any sense. But hacking various tweets together is always amusing.
So I think taking the Central Line on the London Underground on a Saturday evening was always going to be a bad idea.

Day 7
Okay, I’m going to have to go back on what I said before: I actually cannot survive without a JavaScript-enabled browser. So I’m going to allow vimperator from now on. It is interesting, however, to see just how many sites don’t function at all without JavaScript.
RT @DemetriMartin: Please RT this to achieve nothing for no cause.

Day 5
STILL HERE STILL DOING IT.
Well, I went into Windows for a bit to play some Doom 3. Forced myself to use the windows CLI to get there, so as not to cheat. And the Windows cmd.exe is TERRIBLE. Or just massively different to the Linux CLI. Either way, not going CLI-only in Windows again, even if it does mean no games.
And cmus is still impressive. As is mplayer, when I’m not trying to...
K-On!: Probably the wrong reason I learned to play bass.
Day 3
Well I think I’m finally seeing the benefit of no GUIs. Apparently there’s this Rebecca Black person who just popped up, and me not being able to YouTube her is a good thing.
Who’da thunk it?
okay is there ANY CLI browser that supports JavaScript? I decided yesterday that Vimperator doesn’t count.
oh, and per suggestion, I’ve decided vimperator IS a cheat. So I’m sticking to w3m/elinks for now.

Day 2
I’m still at it.
So today was spent at school taking notes with nano, and utterly terrifying my classmates with the command-line goodness. This was a relative breeze compared to some of the setup tasks I’ve had! I’m still trying to work out how to get xterm’s colours changed - any tips would be very welcome!
Also, cmus (a console music player) is FANTASTIC. Pointed it...
Was just informed that there are no comments on Tumblr. Herp derp. Thanks @nyshana for reminding me :p

Day 1: A Little More Introduction
So, now I’ve finished beating my CLI with a stick, I’d like to take a moment to explain a little more about me and my setup. This will mostly be slightly technical, so if you just want to watch me crash and burn, you’ll have to wait for it to happen. :p
Firstly, a bit about me. My name is Peter Hicks, I’m 18 years old, and I’m an English sixth form student....
Questions are now enabled.
If you want to ask or just comment, go nuts. But not too nuts.
Day 1: Addendum
As a note, Tumblr (from glancing at the posts in w3m) seems to be kludging my timestamps. Huh.
Day One: Explaining That Screenshot
Okay, I’ll try to explain what the frell that last screenshot was:
Clockwise, we have: w3m, my web browser; an ssh link to my server displaying irssi, an IRC client; a terminal where I had just exited alsamixer, a volume control; mplayer, playing an MP3; TTYtter, a Twitter client, and a terminal where I had just issued the command to take the screenshot. Whew.

Day One
So the first time I played with Linux was in 1997. I was five years old. Thirteen years later, and I’m setting myself a challenge. For thirty days, I can only use text-mode applications. No Chrome, no Banshee, no GNOME, just ratpoison, w3m, mplayer, and the like. I’ll report in every day so you guys know I haven’t given up. First day, and I’m having trouble without the...
